Athletes as role models
Learning about achievers, reading about them, about how they achieved what they wanted and became successful will make you follow their footpaths and achieve your goals. You will understand that everyone is like you but those who are achievers and who have been successful in life had followed a disciplined life, had a goal, developed their self esteem and self confidence. They never forgot their goal and whenever they came across set backs they tried to learn from the set backs and move ahead instead of quitting. They always kept themselves motivated.
There are many athletes who are great achievers in their respective fields. They are world champions, Olympic gold medal winners, and toppers. For example Tiger Woods is a legendary golf player and a master of the game. In the game of cricket there are quite a few champions. In chess you have the Indian Champion Vishwanathan Anand.
How have they been able to achieve their goals and become champions?
It is their Character - We can learn many qualities from them for succeeding in our life and achieving our goals.
Be Disciplined. Did you know that, even simple things like time to get up and time to go to bed are religiously set and followed by them. Tiger Wood’s website says Tiger’s alarm clock is set at 5:00 a.m. sharp?
Have a role model to inspire you. Identify your role model. It can be your parents, professionals in your field, great leaders and achievers.
Be a good person. The biggest challenge is to become a better person tomorrow. All athletes set their goals and once it is achieved they increase it a little higher.
Be proud of yourself. When you achieve something, win a competition, stand out in your performance at school or workplace, pat yourself. Feel proud of your achievements. Feeling proud of yourself enhances your self-esteem and your self-respect.
Don't get frustrated. When you try to change something, it is going to take time. It calls for a lot of patience. If you are doing work outs for a fit and healthy body, you cannot expect results in a day. It will take some time. You may begin to feel frustrated. If you let frustration take over you will get nowhere. Tiger says in his website "When I try to change something, whether it's my swing or my physique, I know it's going to take a lot of patience. Sometimes, you don't see immediate results, and frustration can get you off your game if you let it. A great example of that is my strength-training routine. I've been lifting weights for a long time, but I didn't see real changes until my mid-20s when I was finally able to lay down muscle and keep it. It felt good to see all that work paying off, but it took time because of my body type. Patience kept me focused, and I eventually got the results I wanted. "
For a healthy body and mind: The bottom line is fitness is a personal choice. There isn't a one-size-fits-all way of doing it. Find something that works for you and your body type and stick with it. You'll build good fitness habits for life and have some fun while you're at it.
Daily Routine. Have a daily routine. It is very necessary to achieve your goals keep your body and mind healthy and fit.
Learn How to stay in control and How to master the mind. Tiger’s website says many of Tiger's victories are a result of his ability to shut out the crowds and come up with the "biggest shot of his career" time and time again to win tournament after tournament. He says this became possible as he learnt to stay in control and master his mind.

Tiger Traits: 9 Success Secrets You Can Discover From Tiger Woods to Be a Business Champion
One of the staples in the business - motivation literature is the use of sports and sports heroes to illustrate a set of constructive traits the author shares with you. Here, Nate Booth has written a book that motivates the reader by illustrating the nine principles he provides in the book (and a tenth bonus principle online) through the life and career of the phenomenal golfer, Tiger Woods. The author is clear that Tiger has NOTHING to do with the book, does not endorse it, and is in no way affiliated with him. I guess this disclaimer is necessary in this age of total marketing, branding, and so forth. However, if you go to your bookstore and look at all the books based on the lives of various people without their endorsement, you could fill many shelves.
The main focus of the book, as I read it, is about taking control of your life by finding out what you are truly good at (the author provides you with some sound ways to tell), to develop a compelling dream around that talent, to get the right role models - teachers - supporters who will help you along the path, being confident, getting the right mental models, talk through actions, continually improve, be likeable (as an aside, while Tiger is famous and charismatic, I am not sure he is necessarily likeable nor am I sure he is concerned about it), and giving back.
Booth provides a post nine-hole (nine-principle) cool down where he summarizes of what he was trying to teach through the book and hopes the reader has learned. He also offers some recommended reading. The book is NOT only about Tiger. Booth provides some excellent quotes from all kinds of past greats, from Aristotle, Woodrow Wilson, Winston Churchill, Mark Twain, Walt Disney, and even Jiminy Cricket (and many others). I enjoyed these brief quotations a great deal. If you enjoy motivational reading and are interested in Tiger Woods, this is a book for you.
